Fascinating, Productive Week

At RRT, we work with largely unknown activists, attempting to tell their story and place them in the context of the national Civil Rights narrative. On Tuesday, we were able to speak with Joe Tave, who served as the first president of the Afro-American Society of East Texas (AASET). AASET successfully won concessions from ETSU’s administration, including the hiring of black faculty, a black studies program, and the hiring of blacks to serve as public faces of the university. As always, in answering some questions, so many more pop up, which in turn, require more research, which presents more questions, providing us with a never-ending cycle of research, production, and consumption.
